SUCCESSES CHILDRENS WISH We reached 2,800 kids this year, our highest ever. So many people are involved in this activity to ensure its success. We have grown this program over the past 20 years from less than 100 kids to where we are today. The program donations covered the Club’s gift expenses. Master Elf Brian MacKenzie was a marvelous leader again this year. Thanks go to all of you who participated. Brian reminds everyone that it’s never too early to think about the 2009 program. We will have a sponsor thank you continental breakfast on Thursday, January 22 at the Marriott. MI DISTRICT 1ST QUARTER MEETING The Optimist Michigan District held its 1st quarter meeting at the Pontiac Marriott at Centerpoint on Nov 14-16. We sponsored a reception in one of the hotel’s banquet rooms on Nov 14. We had at least fifteen members present to greet the out of town Optimists. Thanks to all of those that attended. We want to thank the Auburn Hills Club & the Rochester Club for their donations. GOLF OUTING This year’s golf outing is scheduled for Monday, May 18, 2009 at Wabeek Country Club. More information will be in the spring newsletter and on the website. MORE NEWS 41pounds.org The average adult gets about 41 pounds of junk mail per year. Sign up and their website will stop 85-90% of junk mail for $41. Over one third of the fee goes to a charitable organization of your choice. Why mention this here? Because our club is one of the charitable organizations that you can choose to benefit. Get more info and sign up at www.41pounds.org. Some may remember when Sander DeVries spoke to the club last year. Sander is the brains behind the website.

OPTIMIST CREED PROMISE YOURSELF- To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind. To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet. To make all your friends feel that there is something in them. To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true. To think only of the best, to work only for the best and to expect only the best. To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own. To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future. To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile. To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others. To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.
