AUGUST 18, 2007 -  DREAM CRUISE  I want to thank all of the Optimist for the fantastic showing and effort at last Saturday's Dream Cruise Event. The morning hours are very important and your efforts helped set the stage for what appears to be a successful event.  I do not have any specifics, but it appears clear that we had more cars registered and sold more merchandise and sold more parking spaces.  The vendors and primary sponsor all indicated they were happy with the event and their personal results. That is what we need to get them to come back.  I will let everyone know the actual results as soon as we have them.  Again, Thank you very much.  Stuart T. McCormick

MAY 24, 2007  Dr. Bob Lorenz, The Climate Project, Global Warming.  An interesting synopsis of Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth" errors and all.  The amount of carbon on the planet is the same as it was a million years ago with the exception of that which arrived via meteors.  The amount of CO2 in the atmosphere appears to increase as the temperature increases and not vice versa. For more info besides Al Gore, Watch ALL of the video (75 minutes). Paste the following link into your explorer .  Covers science and politics. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4499562022478442170

MAY 10, 2007 -  Jerry Seizert, CEO Seizert Capital Partners "New Global Economy".  The world is changing and there are three main factors which are having an impact.  1)  ISLAM is growing in population because of the imbalance in birth rates and 2) related to birth rates are things like Russia is imploding population wise, China in 10 years will have 70 Million more adult males than females and Siberia has the oil that China will need.  Europe is also imploding in population.  The US has a birth rate of 2.0 ( 2.1 is equilibrium) which is probably why Mexican immigration may be good.  The third factor is OIL.

MAY 1, 2007 - About 12 members of Bloomfield Hills Optimist Club made the trip to the Michigan Supreme Court for Respect for Law Day.  We had the privilege and honor of spending more than 1/2 hour with Judge Owens of the Appellate Court and then most of an hour with Chief Justice Taylor of the Supreme Court.  Both men were fascinating, we could have stayed another hour.  The educational Law Center is a treat for adults and especially children where many school trips attend.  The new Supreme Court Building is beautiful and worthy of a special trip for anyone. After the visit we all were invited to Barb Browne's home for a wonderful diner. Pictures.

During the breakfast honoring Ms. Price current and former students along with the Head Master and Assistant Head Master of Detroit Country Day gave insights into Ms. Price wonderful tenure at the school.  We received a wonderful note from Dan Gilbert (for those of you who don't know Dan - a long time member of the Optimists who we don't see very often!).  Dan had Beverly as a teacher when he was DCDS (Detroit Country Day School) and he was entered in the oratorical and essay contests because of Beverly.  Dan is now a successful financier at Fidelity Bank.  Beverly's ripple effect is something to see .were given, judged by Norman Greenfield, an attorney from SIEGEL, GREENFIELD HAYES & GROSS P.L.C.; Ann Redner, from REDNER CREATIVE; and Henry Payne an Editorial Cartoonist from the Detroit News.
